Cleaner waters bring more seals to China's Changdao

Once affected by coastal development and aquaculture, the waters around Changdao in east China's Shandong Province are seeing signs of recovery. By restoring seagrass beds and algae fields, removing nearshore aquaculture and rebuilding coastal habitats, Changdao has improved its marine ecosystem and biodiversity. The return of Pacific spotted seals is one visible sign of the change. ■
