JERUSALEM, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Friday that it killed a Hamas company commander who allegedly took part in the Hamas attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

According to the statement, the militant, Muhammad Bassam Muhammad Mushtaha, who served as a company commander in the Shati' Battalion of Hamas' military wing, was struck two weeks ago in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military said Mushtaha was involved in holding several Israeli hostages captive throughout the war.

The military claimed that Mushtaha had attempted to carry out attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, prompting the military to target and kill him.

In October 2025, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect.

Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally rejected the U.S.-backed 15-point plan for ending the Gaza conflict, insisting that Israel will not withdraw its forces from the enclave until Hamas is fully disarmed.
