BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank announced on Friday that it will issue four commemorative coins starting Aug. 17 to mark the 100th birth anniversary of late Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.
The coins comprise one ordinary commemorative coin, two gold coins and one silver coin, all of which are legal tender in China, according to the People's Bank of China.
The ordinary commemorative coin has a face value of 1 yuan (about 14.73 U.S. cents) and a diameter of 25 millimeters. Made of nickel-plated steel, it will have a mintage of 10 million pieces.
Its obverse features China's national emblem, along with the country name and year of issuance, while the reverse bears a portrait of Jiang, a Chinese inscription marking the 100th anniversary of his birth, "1926-2026," and the face value.
All three gold and silver coins feature China's national emblem, the country name and year of issuance on the obverse.
A 30-gram round gold coin, featuring a portrait of Jiang on the reverse, contains 30 grams of pure gold, measures 32 millimeters in diameter and has a face value of 500 yuan, with a maximum mintage of 1,000 pieces.
An 8-gram round gold coin features on its reverse a photograph of Jiang taken at his graduation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1947. Containing 8 grams of pure gold, the coin measures 22 millimeters in diameter, has a face value of 100 yuan and a maximum mintage of 10,000 pieces.
A 30-gram round silver coin features a photograph of Jiang speaking at a meeting on the "Three Stresses" education campaign for leading officials in Gaozhou, south China's Guangdong Province, in 2000. Containing 30 grams of pure silver, the coin measures 40 millimeters in diameter, has a face value of 10 yuan and a maximum mintage of 20,000 pieces.
The gold and silver coins will be distributed by China Gold Coin Group Co., Ltd.
Jiang passed away in 2022 at the age of 96. ■
