KUNMING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- In 2021, a herd of wild Asian elephants, known as the "short-nose family," captured worldwide attention after roaming more than 1,400 kilometers across southwest China's Yunnan Province. Now, five years later, what is the current status of this elephant family?
Join Xinhua correspondent Smiley as she teams up with wild elephant monitors to track the herds and provide early warning to nearby villagers as well as offer monitoring data for scientific research.
Using tools ranging from infrared cameras to drones, elephant observers are helping people better understand and protect these giants while promoting harmonious coexistence between elephants and locals.
