PARIS, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- France's consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.1 percent year on year in July, up from 1.8 percent in June, according to data released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) on Friday.
The acceleration in inflation was mainly driven by faster increases in service and energy prices, Insee said. Service prices rose 2.2 percent year on year in July, up from 1.9 percent in June, while energy prices increased 12.6 percent, accelerating from 11 percent in June.
The decline in manufactured goods prices eased to 0.7 percent from 1.1 percent in June. Food prices rose 1 percent year on year, slightly faster than the 0.9 percent increase recorded in June. Tobacco prices increased 3.3 percent year on year, unchanged from the previous month.
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.6 percent in July, following a 0.3 percent decline in June. The increase was mainly driven by seasonal rises in service prices and a rebound in energy prices.
Service prices rose 1.6 percent from the previous month, up from 0.5 percent in June. Transport service prices surged 10.9 percent, from a 0.5 percent rise in June, while accommodation prices jumped 12.7 percent, up from an 8.6 percent increase in June. Energy prices increased 2.3 percent, following a 4.2 percent decline in June.
On a yearly basis, core inflation stood at 1.3 percent in July, up from 1 percent in June, Insee said. ■
