HANOI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's automobile sales hit a record high of 387,849 units in the first seven months of this year, up 28.6 percent year on year, local daily VnExpress reported Thursday.
The figure combines sales data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), importers, Vietnamese automaker VinFast and Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Auto Joint Venture Joint Stock Company.
VAMA members and importers recorded sales of 221,540 vehicles during the period, up 14 percent year on year, while Hyundai Thanh Cong's sales stood at 28,612 units.
VinFast remained the biggest contributor to the market's overall growth, selling 137,697 vehicles in the seven-month period, up 74.2 percent from the same period last year.
July marked the first time since March that the auto market returned to sales growth, with sales rising nearly 12 percent from June, the report said. ■
