JAKARTA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has expanded the use of domestic asphalt from Buton in Southeast Sulawesi through new regulations aimed at reducing reliance on imported asphalt for toll road projects, the country's Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said Thursday.
Hanggodo said a ministerial regulation was issued to govern the use of Buton asphalt in road construction and maintenance, including technical guidelines and incentives.
The ministerial decision for the 2026-2029 period also sets phased targets to increase the share of Buton material in asphalt mixtures, the minister added.
The ministry has been striving to boost the use of Buton materials in asphalt blends for toll road construction to build national self-reliance and improve efficiency in infrastructure development, local media reported. ■
