MADRID, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Sunday's la Liga game between Celta Vigo and Osasuna has been postponed after a fungal outbreak has affected the playing surface at Celta's Balaidos Stadium.

Officials from La Liga decided to postpone the match until August 27th after a pitch inspection to see if the game could proceed or not.

Celta is reported to have requested the game to be postponed, whereas Osasuna had indicated it would prefer for it to proceed.

Ironically, Celta could have asked for the game to be postponed a month ago given that the club's striker, Borja Iglesias formed part of Spain's World Cup winning squad and teams which have players who reached the last four of this summer's competition, don't have to start their season until the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd.

However, the fact Celta is playing in this season's Europa League means the club originally preferred to play Osasuna on the scheduled date rather than postpone it and face a fixture pile-up.

The change means Celta will now have games on August 22nd, 27th, 30th, as well as September 3rd and 7th.

The opening matches between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad and Valencia and Betis have all been postponed, while Atletico Madrid will play Malaga on August 19th because of players involved in the World Cup.
