MELBOURNE, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of job applications per advertised position in Australia rose to a record high in June, according to data from the nation's top employment website.

The Melbourne-based Seek said in its latest monthly employment report published on Wednesday that the number of job applications per advertised position rose by 1.2 percent in June to the highest level on record.

It said that the number of applications per job listing has increased consistently since January, while the total number of job ads has been in decline.

Seek chief economist Blair Chapman said in a media release that construction and trade-based industries have defied the trend, with rising demand specifically for roles in the planning, construction and maintenance of data centers.

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the official unemployment rate was steady at 4.4 percent in June.

The participation rate, which measures the proportion of the working-age population who are either employed or looking for work, rose from 66.7 percent in May to 67.0 percent in June, which was the highest figure since July 2025.
