JAKARTA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has been accelerating the expansion of public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as EV adoption continues to rise, according to the country's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.

The development of EV charging stations "opens up opportunities for various business models," said Wahyudi Joko Santoso, the ministry's coordinator for smart grid, electric charging and storage development, as quoted from the ministry's official website on Tuesday.

"This diversity is expected to drive business participation and speed up charging infrastructure deployment," Wahyudi said.

Official data showed that electricity consumption at public EV charging stations reached 62.4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in the first half of 2026, surpassing the 48.5 million kWh recorded throughout the entire year of 2025.
