TOKYO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended higher Wednesday, supported by buying of some semiconductor-related shares.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 553.84 points, or 0.83 percent, from Monday at 67,524.06.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 38.39 points, or 0.94 percent, higher at 4,139.00, hitting a record high.
Japanese markets were closed Tuesday for a public holiday.
On the stock market, investors took a wait-and-see stance during early trading ahead of the release of the U.S. consumer price index for July. But the benchmark Nikkei gained ground in the afternoon, boosted by chip-related shares, analysts said. ■
