CANBERRA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Australia and Vietnam said they have agreed to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership following a meeting between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and President To Lam in Canberra on Tuesday.
Albanese and Lam said in a joint statement after meeting at Parliament House that the two nations will boost their economic and defense ties to enhance the comprehensive partnership.
The statement said that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to an open, inclusive, fair and rules-based multilateral trading system.
"Both our countries have an interest in keeping trade open and reliable," Albanese told reporters.
He said that Australia and Vietnam have signed agreements to deepen cooperation in the digital economy and on agriculture and sustainable development.
Lam said at Parliament House that he is confident that bilateral ties will fulfill the interests of Australia and Vietnam and contribute to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world. ■
