BOGOTA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced the suspension of two Copa Libertadores matches in Colombia after a powerful earthquake struck the country on Monday.
At least 100 people were killed and dozens more injured after the 7.4 magnitude quake toppled buildings in several cities in the country's west.
The suspended round of 16 fixtures, both scheduled for this week, feature Deportes Tolima vs. Independiente del Valle and Independiente Santa Fe vs. River Plate.
"In these difficult times, CONMEBOL sends its love and support to all of Colombia and, especially, to the great Colombian football family," it said.
The regional football governing body added that details regarding the rescheduling of both matches will be announced in the coming days. ■
