NEW DELHI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The national capital territory of Delhi is witnessing a sharp surge in H1N1 influenza cases, multiple local media reports said Tuesday.
As per data, Delhi has so far recorded over 1,300 cases of H1N1 (swine flu) this year, a nearly sixfold increase compared to 229 during the same period last year.
According to a local newspaper, Dainik Jagran, two deaths from a single family related to the disease were reported last week at a private hospital in Delhi within a span of three days.
Local health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh told the media that the Delhi government has made adequate arrangements in terms of medicines, beds and ventilators at the hospitals to deal with the situation.
Health experts attribute the rise in influenza cases to seasonal changes during the monsoon. Meanwhile, doctors have cautioned people to strictly adhere to the preventive guidelines to curb the spread of H1N1. ■
