HARARE, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A boat carrying 90 passengers and five crew members capsized on Tuesday in Zimbabwe's Lake Kariba, with rescue operations currently underway, according to local police.
"A DDF boat with 90 people and five crew members has capsized in Lake Kariba. Rescue efforts are currently underway with more details on the situation to be released in due course," Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed on social media platform X.
The number of casualties remains unknown at the current stage.
The DDF, formerly known as the District Development Fund and now renamed the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency, is a government agency that provides infrastructure maintenance, as well as affordable marine and air transport services in the southern African country. ■
