MANILA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government on Monday ordered all agencies to ensure that assistance reaches residents affected by severe weather.

According to Presidential Press Officer Claire Castro on Monday, authorities were also instructed to extend aid to affected residents who have returned home after staying in evacuation centers.

The enhanced southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay have triggered heavy rains and secondary disasters such as landslides, particularly in remote areas.

Nearly 40 million pesos worth of assistance (0.66 million U.S. dollars) has been provided to affected communities across 10 regions, according to local media reports.

Over 3,800 military, police and coast guard personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations, with more than 4,300 others on standby.
