LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Spanish midfielder Sergi Roberto has joined LA Galaxy on a free transfer, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club said on Saturday.
The 34-year-old agreed to a deal that runs until 2028 after his contract with Italy's Como expired in June.
"Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence and championship experience that few players have," Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said in a statement on the club's official website.
"He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi's character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable."
Roberto made his professional debut for Barcelona in 2010 and remained at the Catalan club until his 2024 move to Como.
The former Spain international joins a Galaxy midfield that includes Germany's Marco Reus and former Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig. ■
