DOHA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and visiting Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq met here on Sunday, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional developments, said Qatar's Amiri Diwan, the administration office of the emir.
The two leaders reviewed the close bilateral ties and ways to further develop them across various fields, while exchanging views on issues of mutual interest, it said in a statement.
The Qatari leader reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries in a manner that serves their shared interests and meets the aspirations of their peoples, it said.
The Omani leader expressed Oman's interest in further strengthening cooperation and coordination with Qatar, saying such efforts will reinforce the longstanding bilateral ties and open broader prospects for cooperation across various fields, it said.
The Omani leader's visit comes as both countries continue diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.
On Saturday, Oman's Foreign Ministry said ongoing talks with Iran on navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz were continuing "in a positive and constructive atmosphere," while Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Iran and Oman were "very close" to reaching an agreement on a temporary maritime route through the strait. ■
