BEIRUT, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Israeli warplanes struck a water culvert over the Qasmiyeh irrigation canal in southern Lebanon's Mansouri area early Sunday, the Litani River Authority said, in what appeared to be a hit on a key agricultural infrastructure.
The culvert, located next to the destroyed Mansouri Bridge, is part of the Qasmiyeh-Ras al-Ain irrigation project, which supplies water to about 2,400 hectares of orchards along the southern coast, the authority said in a statement.
It said technical teams are assessing the damage, with no immediate reports of casualties.
The Qasmiyeh-Ras al-Ain project relies on water from the Litani River and extends about 59 km from Ghaziyeh to Mansouri. Israeli warplanes destroyed eight of the 10 bridges and water culverts built over the river in March.
The latest incident followed the seventh round of Lebanon-Israel negotiations held in Rome from Tuesday to Thursday to advance security arrangements along the border and implement a Lebanon-Israel framework agreement signed in late June. ■
