DHAKA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's trade deficit in the 2025-26 fiscal year from July 2025 to June 2026 ballooned by more than 33 percent year-on-year to 27.29 billion U.S. dollars, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank's data released recently show that the country's import expenditure was 71.14 billion dollars, up 10.5 percent, in the 2025-26 fiscal year, while earnings from exports stood at 43.86 billion dollars, down 0.2 percent, during the same period.

Meanwhile, growth in remittances helped Bangladesh cushion the impact of the current account deficit.

Bangladesh's remittances hit an all-time high of over 35 billion dollars in the fiscal year 2025-26.
