JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Brad Cooper, chief of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Israel on Saturday for a several-hour visit, Israel's state-owned Kan TV News reported.
During his brief visit, Cooper met with Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir and other senior commanders to assess the current multi-front situation, Kan reported.
It reported that the U.S. military remains on high alert in Israel, where dozens of U.S. fighters, refueling aircraft, air defense systems, and thousands of U.S. troops remain deployed.
According to Kan, Cooper also addressed Gaza, saying Washington has been pressing Israel to advance the second phase of the Gaza peace plan after the U.S.-led "Board of Peace" announced an agreement last week on disarming Hamas.
The CENTCOM chief arrived in Israel after holding meetings in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on regional developments and defense cooperation. ■
