XI'AN, China, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's women won six freestyle wrestling gold medals at the 2026 China-Central Asia Elite Wrestling tournament here on Saturday, while Uzbekistan's Keunimjaeva Aktenge and Belarus' Kurachkina Iryna also claimed titles.
The host nation's gold medals came from Hong Jing in the 53-kilogram category, Li Yuxuan in 55kg, Song Chenlin in 68kg, Feng Yongxin and Li Zelu in 72kg, and Jiang Qian in 75kg.
Asian champion Feng won all four of her round-robin matches without conceding a single point. In her final bout, she defeated Belarus' Ivanova Veranika by pinfall.
"Winning the gold medal was within my expectations, but I couldn't imagine that I could win the title so easily. I was a 57kg wrestler and began training as a 62kg competitor in January 2026. Hard training in these months brought me the gold medal," Feng told Xinhua.
Olympic silver medalist Kurachkina dominated the 57kg category. The 32-year-old Belarusian defeated China's Li Jingjing with a late pinfall in the group stage before beating host wrestler Liang Jinying 9-2 in the final.
"I didn't set any goals before the tournament, so I didn't have pressure on the court," Kurachkina said.
"I will try to reach the highest podium in this year's World Championships," she added.
The tournament concludes on Sunday. ■
