MADRID, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Elche has completed its third signing of the summer as the team coached by Martin Anselmi prepares to begin its La Liga campaign with an away match against newly promoted Deportivo La Coruna on August 17.
The club from southeastern Spain has signed 21-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, aiming to strengthen an attacking department that has lost several key players, including Alvaro Rodriguez, Andre Silva, Rafa Mir and Aleix Febas, during the summer transfer window.
Buonanotte can operate on the wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker. He arrives in Spain looking to revive his career after a difficult 2025-26 season, during which he spent loan spells at Chelsea and Leeds United but struggled to secure regular playing time.
He becomes the third addition to Anselmi's squad this summer, following the arrivals of striker Fer Nino from second-tier side Burgos and 20-year-old midfielder Javi Morcillo from Atletico Madrid's reserve team.
However, Elche's squad still appears less competitive than the one that narrowly avoided relegation last season under former coach Eder Sarabia, and the club is expected to continue strengthening the team before the transfer window closes at the end of August. ■
