Azerbaijan, Armenia discuss progress in normalizing ties

BAKU, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed progress in normalizing bilateral relations during a phone conversation on Saturday, according to the Azerbaijani presidential press service.

During the conversation, both sides noted progress made over the past year in normalizing relations between the two countries.

The two sides also highlighted growing trade and economic ties, including Azerbaijan's export of petroleum products to Armenia and the transit of cargo through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia and onward to other destinations, the statement said.

Both sides underlined the importance of continuing efforts to normalize ties and promote regional stability, connectivity and economic cooperation, according to the statement.

Saturday marks the first anniversary of a peace summit held on Aug. 8, 2025, in Washington, D.C., which established peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The meeting also witnessed the initialing of a peace agreement text between them.
