MACAO, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The population of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) stood at 686,500 at the end of the first half of 2026, an increase of 600 year-on-year, the SAR's statistics service said on Friday.
Females accounted for 54.0 percent of the total population, with 371,000 females and 315,500 males, said the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
A total of 1,340 live births were recorded in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, mortality totaled 1,329, with neoplasms remaining the leading cause of death, accounting for 35.6 percent of the total.
During the period, 1,466 people from the Chinese mainland were granted one-way permits to settle in Macao, down 150 year-on-year, while 471 individuals were newly granted the right of abode, a decrease of 424 from a year earlier.
The number of registered marriages rose by five year-on-year to 1,447 in the first half of the year, the DSEC said. ■
