RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and dozens injured Friday in a crash involving a bus, a truck and two cars on a highway in Luziania in Brazil's central-western state of Goias, local authorities said.

According to the Goias Military Fire Department, among the fatalities were two women and a baby who were traveling on the bus, as well as two men who were in the truck. All five died at the scene.

Fire department spokesperson Milson Fernandes said rescue teams confirmed the deaths after arriving at the crash site.

The bus was carrying 48 passengers, including adults and children. Most of the injured were taken to hospitals in the region, mainly the Luziania Regional Hospital, while others received treatment at local health units.

According to a preliminary report from firefighters, at least eight people were in serious condition, and about 25 others had minor or moderate injuries.

To support rescue efforts, the Military Fire Department of the Federal District deployed an aircraft equipped to transport seriously injured patients, with a doctor on board.
