CAIRO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least seven workers were killed and seven others wounded on Thursday after a pickup truck overturned on a desert road leading to Giza governorate, south of Cairo, the Egyptian capital, according to a medical source.
The vehicle was carrying construction workers returning from a work site, local media reported.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the accident, a medical source at El Saff Central Hospital in Giza told Xinhua.
Road accidents claim thousands of lives in Egypt every year, mostly due to speeding, negligence of traffic rules, and poor road maintenance.
The Egyptian government has been upgrading the country's road network to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents. ■
