DHAKA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed on Friday morning after two passenger buses collided head-on in Bangladesh's Sylhet region, some 240 km northeast of the capital Dhaka.
The accident also left 25 others injured, Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Sylhet's Osmani Nagar police station, told local journalists.
The cause of the accident, which occurred at around 7:30 a.m. local time, is under investigation, said the officer.
Bangladesh has high fatality rates for road accidents, mainly due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles, the violation of traffic rules by inept drivers, and a lack of monitoring by the traffic department. ■
