BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for blocking a mainland website that provides young people from Taiwan with information on job and internship opportunities, as well as college applications.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks after the DPP authorities said they had banned Taiwan residents from accessing the site, named "E-home for Taiwan Youth," citing concerns over the risk of "personal information leaks."
Chen said the website was designed to meet the needs of young people from Taiwan seeking to study or work on the mainland, and the DPP authorities' decision to block the website cannot deter them from pursuing opportunities and personal development across the Taiwan Strait.
On the contrary, the blocking demonstrated that the site had effectively addressed young people's needs, which the DPP authorities have ignored, Chen added.
He stressed that the mainland offers broad opportunities for young people from Taiwan to study, find jobs and start businesses, and will continue to provide favorable conditions to facilitate their pursuit of dreams here. ■
