KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's services producer price index (SPPI) rose 2.9 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from a 2.1 percent increase in the previous quarter, driven by higher prices across key service sectors, official data showed on Thursday.
Accommodation and food and beverage services index recorded the largest increase, rising 6.4 percent from a year earlier, compared with a 5.7 percent gain in the first quarter, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.
The transportation index climbed 5.6 percent, up from 3.8 percent in the preceding quarter, while the education index rose 2.1 percent after increasing 1.9 percent in the first quarter.
Other sectors that recorded higher producer prices included arts, entertainment and recreation, and health services, both up 1.6 percent, followed by real estate activities at 1.3 percent and professional services at 1 percent.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the SPPI increased 1.1 percent in the April-June period, easing slightly from the 1.4 percent growth recorded in the first quarter.
The quarterly increase was supported by price gains across all service subsectors, it said. ■
