RAMALLAH/GAZA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen Palestinians were injured and more than 60 others arrested on Thursday during an ongoing Israeli military operation at the Qalandiya refugee camp north of Jerusalem, Palestinian sources said.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a press statement that its crews treated 16 people with varying injuries and evacuated several patients from the camp.
The Palestinian Authority's Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli forces demolished shops near the Qalandiya military checkpoint and closed the main road to traffic, bringing movement to a halt.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club, a non-governmental organization, said Israeli forces have arrested and interrogated more than 60 people, including children and women, since the operation began.
The Palestinian Presidency condemned the "aggression," describing the demolition of homes and property, the obstruction of ambulance crews, and the siege as "flagrant violation of international law and international agreements," urging the international community to intervene, read a press statement by Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Separately, the Hamas-run media office in Gaza said Thursday that Israel has committed 4,091 violations of the ceasefire agreement over the past 300 days, killing 1,254 Palestinians and injuring 4,121 others.
Also on Thursday, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt issued a joint statement, strongly condemning "ongoing Israeli violations" in Gaza, in particular "the targeting of healthcare facilities and medical infrastructure, attacks on civilian infrastructure, and the continued loss of civilian lives."
The continuous Israeli move violates international law and the Gaza ceasefire agreement, undermines efforts to implement the second phase of the agreement, and threatens to reignite escalation and deepen the humanitarian catastrophe in the enclave, they said. ■
