JAKARTA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The recent hit Chinese film "Dear You" held its premiere here on Wednesday evening, attracting audiences from the political, business, and cultural sectors of both China and Indonesia.

The movie, known in Chinese as "Love Letters to Grandma," centers on "qiaopi" -- the letters and remittances used by overseas Chinese to stay connected with their families back home. Through these messages, the characters uncover memories, love, and interconnected family bonds in a simple yet deeply genuine narrative.

The premiere was met with an enthusiastic response. The film's delicate portrayal of the hardship-filled years and the stories behind these historical letters deeply struck a chord with the overseas Chinese community, drawing tears from many in the audience.

Throughout the screening, Indonesian viewer Chen Meizhuan hummed along with the nursery rhymes featured in the film.

The 82-year-old said that the movie awakened memories deep within her heart. During the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, her father moved from Guangdong Province, south China, to Indonesia, and for decades after, maintained ties with his family and supported them financially through "qiaopi."

"The story in this movie is just like the story of my father coming to Southeast Asia," Chen said. "I'm so excited that this film is finally being released in Indonesia, and I felt I just had to come and watch it."

The film is set for a nationwide cinema release on Friday.
