DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's energy regulator on Wednesday announced a reduction in retail fuel prices for August, aiming to ease transport and business costs.
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) said in a statement that the new price caps, effective Wednesday, reduced petrol prices by 92 Tanzanian shillings (about 0.04 U.S. dollars) per liter, diesel by 204 shillings, and kerosene by 440 shillings compared to July levels.
In the commercial hub of Dar es Salaam, maximum pump prices were capped at 3,898 shillings per liter for petrol, 3,978 shillings for diesel, and 4,003 shillings for kerosene, according to the regulator.
EWURA attributed the price decline mainly to a drop in global petroleum prices, despite ongoing market volatility linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The regulator noted that it would continue to monitor international market trends and adjust domestic prices in accordance with its established pricing formula.
EWURA urged fuel dealers to strictly comply with the price caps and clearly display updated pump rates, while encouraging consumers to compare prices across stations. ■
