SINGAPORE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday introduced the Scams (Countermeasures) and Other Matters Bill for its first reading in parliament, proposing amendments to strengthen the country's legal framework against scams.
The bill seeks to amend the Protection from Scams Act, the Online Criminal Harms Act (OCHA) and related legislation to enhance the authorities' ability to detect, disrupt and deter scam activities, the ministry said in a statement.
Among the proposed changes are provisions to facilitate and safeguard the sharing of scam-related information between the police and service providers, expand the Facility Restriction Framework to limit services available to identified scam-linked individuals, introduce new offenses targeting the misuse of online accounts, strengthen the OCHA, and improve the effectiveness of police operations.
"Scams are evolving rapidly, and Singapore's laws must keep pace," the ministry said. ■
