CAIRO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and ongoing Lebanon-Israel negotiations during a phone call on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
During the conversation, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full solidarity with Lebanon in addressing the current challenges, stressing Egypt's longstanding position calling for Israel's full withdrawal from all Lebanese territories.
He emphasized that any violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity constitutes a flagrant breach of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Egyptian foreign minister also underscored the importance of supporting Lebanon's state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces, to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities in extending the state's authority and sovereignty over the entire national territory.
For his part, Salam expressed appreciation for Egypt's support for Lebanon and affirmed Lebanon's commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultations with Egypt on issues of mutual concern.
A new round of U.S.-brokered talks between Israel and Lebanon kicked off in Rome, Italy, on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of the Israel-Lebanon framework agreement.
The framework agreement emerged after war broke out between Israel and Hezbollah on March 2, calling for an end to the conflict. It also demands that Israeli forces steadily withdraw from two "pilot zones" in southern Lebanon and that Lebanese troops be deployed in the south. ■
