SYDNEY, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A woman has died, and four other people have been hospitalized following a collision caused by a stolen car in northeast Australia on Wednesday.
The police force in the state of Queensland said in a statement that a utility was stolen around 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday before colliding with two other vehicles in the suburbs of Cairns, 1,400 km north of Brisbane, around 15 minutes later.
The 25-year-old female driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.
Four other people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Chief Superintendent Kevin Fitzgibbon told reporters on Wednesday night that the 36-year-old man who was allegedly driving the stolen vehicle entered a nearby vehicle after the crash and forced the driver to transport him from the scene.
He was arrested after exiting the vehicle around 2:15 p.m. and taken to the hospital under police guard. ■
