JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Israeli EuroLeague basketball club Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Wednesday the signing of Daniel Theis on a two-year contract.
The 34-year-old German center spent eight seasons in the NBA and was part of the German national teams that won the 2023 FIBA World Cup and 2025 EuroBasket titles.
The club did not disclose financial details, but Israeli media reported that Theis will earn about 4.5 million U.S. dollars over the course of the contract.
Theis played 411 NBA regular-season games for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
He also appeared in 41 NBA playoff games, mostly with Boston. He reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2020, when the Celtics lost 4-2 to the Miami Heat, and played in the 2022 NBA Finals, where Boston was beaten 4-2 by the Golden State Warriors.
Theis spent the past season and a half with Monaco, helping the club reach last year's EuroLeague final, where it lost to Fenerbahce, and this season's quarterfinals. He also helped Monaco win every domestic French title.
At international level, Theis helped Germany win the 2023 FIBA World Cup with victory over Serbia in the final in Manila and the 2025 EuroBasket title after defeating Türkiye in the final in Riga. ■
