VIENTIANE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Laos is strengthening healthcare services for migrant workers as the country's location and connections with neighboring countries have contributed to increasing population movement and labor migration.

A meeting to strengthen labor health services was held on Tuesday in Vientiane province, bringing together representatives from central government agencies and officials from the three targeted provinces of Savannakhet, Champasak, and Phongsaly, according to a report released Wednesday by the Center for Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health.

Ensuring access to quality health services for workers, migrants, and communities in border areas remains a major public health challenge, according to the meeting.

Officials aim to improve healthcare services through investments in health infrastructure and medical equipment, technical capacity building, and the introduction of electronic systems in hospitals across the three targeted provinces.

The meeting emphasized coordination and cooperation among central and local authorities and relevant sectors to improve healthcare access and outcomes for workers and migrant populations.
