BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Teenage substitute Thiago Aguirre scored late as Velez Sarsfield edged to a 1-0 home win over Independiente in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Monday.
Aguirre, a 57th-minute replacement for Dilan Godoy, struck 13 minutes after his introduction by meeting Joaquin Garcia's cross with a header at the near post.
It marked the first goal of 17-year-old Aguirre's professional career in just his second match.
Independiente had only one shot on target as it stumbled to its first defeat of the campaign.
Velez leads the 15-team Group A standings with nine points from three matches, three ahead of second-placed Independiente.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Monday, Central Cordoba won 1-0 at home to San Lorenzo, Huracan was held to a goalless home draw by Atletico Tucuman, Sarmiento won 2-1 at home to Independiente Rivadavia and Talleres prevailed 4-0 at Platense. ■
