BANGKOK, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Thailand has received more than 26.8 billion U.S. dollars in investment applications for semiconductor and advanced electronics projects over the past three years, the country's investment promotion agency said on Monday, as manufacturers spread production away from established hubs.
According to the Thai Board of Investment (BOI), 880 high-technology projects were filed between 2023 and mid-2026. Printed circuit boards (PCB) accounted for the single largest share, with 224 projects valued at 9.85 billion dollars.
The BOI attributed the inflows to global demand tied to artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation semiconductors, electric vehicles, and high-performance computing.
"Amid global supply chain restructuring, Thailand has emerged as a premier global manufacturing base for printed circuit boards," BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said in a statement.
Narit said more than half of the world's top PCB manufacturers have chosen Thailand as their production base and are expanding operations in the country to bring local suppliers into the global technology ecosystem.
The Southeast Asian country's advanced electronics market is projected to be worth between 48 billion dollars and 52 billion dollars in 2026, according to BOI estimates.
Pitharn Ongkosit, president of the Thailand Printed Circuit Association, said semiconductors and advanced packaging segments are projected to grow 15-20 percent a year, while demand linked to AI servers and data center infrastructure is rising by as much as 22 percent annually.
This signals that advanced electronics is becoming a core driver of the Thai industrial economy, Pitharn added. ■
