ROME, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and 27 others injured in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon on the SS79 Ternana highway near the border between the Lazio and Umbria regions in central Italy, local media reported.
According to a preliminary investigation by local traffic police, a camper van is believed to have crossed into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a bus traveling toward Rieti, ANSA news agency reported.
Three cars were also involved in the crash, one of which overturned onto its side.
The victims were the two bus drivers, two passengers on the bus and two others in the camper van.
Four of the injured, all in critical condition, were airlifted by emergency medical helicopters to Rome's Gemelli Hospital and the hospital in Terni, according to ANSA. ■
