BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China has dispatched 11,000 pieces of disaster relief supplies to the northeastern provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang as heavy rains and flooding continued to affect the region, the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) said Saturday.

The disaster aid package, which includes blankets, quilts and household emergency kits, will help local authorities resettle affected residents, provide relief assistance, and ensure their basic living needs are met.

The supplies were allocated by the office of the national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief, the MEM, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.

China's Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level-IV emergency response for flood control in Heilongjiang on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the ministry maintains Level-IV emergency responses for Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu.

China has a four-tier flood-control emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe.
