DOHA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Friday held a phone call with Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas political bureau chief, to discuss the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
During the call, the Qatari prime minister welcomed Hamas' decision to accept the agreed roadmap for completing the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, expressing hope that the move would help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and fulfill their aspirations for security and stability.
He stressed the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities and exerting pressure on Israel to fulfill its obligations under the agreement and halt what he described as its ongoing violations of the rights of the Palestinian people.
The phone call followed renewed diplomatic efforts regarding the future of the Gaza ceasefire. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the so-called "Board of Peace" had reached an agreement on the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the agreement was "a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people." ■
