HARARE, July 30 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and six others injured Wednesday night when a commuter omnibus plunged into a water-filled gully in Harare, the Zimbabwean capital, local police confirmed Thursday.
The crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. local time at the Tynwald overhead rail crossing, located 9 km from the city center, according to police spokesperson Paul Nyathi.
"Six people were killed while six others were injured when a kombi with 11 passengers on board veered off the road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully which contained water," Nyathi said.
The tragedy comes less than two weeks after a similar fatal accident on July 17 in Buhera District, Manicaland Province, where a van plunged into a dam, leaving at least nine people dead.
Police attributed most road accidents in the southern African nation to reckless driving and unroadworthy vehicles. ■
