KABUL, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan is moving forward with the construction of a key section of the Kabul-North Highway in eastern Parwan province, to improve the country's transport infrastructure and strengthen regional connectivity, local authorities said on Thursday.
The department said the project is being carried out at a cost of 342 million afghanis (about 5.3 million U.S. dollars). In addition to road construction, the project includes supporting infrastructure designed to enhance the highway's capacity, safety and long-term durability.
According to the provincial department of public works, work has resumed on the second phase of the highway, one of Afghanistan's most important transport corridors, linking the capital Kabul with the northern provinces.
Once completed, the upgraded section is expected to improve access between Kabul and the northern regions, contributing to domestic trade and economic activity. ■
