TOKYO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a powerful earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, has risen to 17, while six people remain in cardiac arrest, local media reported Thursday.
At least one person remains unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue, Kumamoto officials said at a disaster response headquarters meeting held Thursday morning, public broadcaster NHK reported. ■
