KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Massive, sustained and structured capital and stronger partnerships with technology partners are needed for ASEAN to accelerate its energy transition, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Wednesday.
Greater collaboration among the public sector, private investors and project developers is needed to mobilize the financing required to build solar farms, upgrade grids, install battery storage, and upskill workers as national governments cannot bear this burden alone, Anwar said in his keynote address at the Greater Bay Area (GBA)-ASEAN Conference on Energy Transition and Integration.
The Greater Bay Area represents a unique combination of global leaders in international finance, cutting-edge technology, and advanced manufacturing capability, he said, adding that an integrated and dynamic GBA acts as an indispensable partner that will profoundly benefit all of ASEAN.
Anwar added that the energy transition must be balanced to enable all segments of society to benefit, as the aim of improvements in technology is the betterment of people's lives, especially those from marginalized and economically disadvantaged groups. ■
