NEW YORK, July 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 1,153.18 points, or 2.19 percent, to 51,594.14. The S&P 500 sank 112.63 points, or 1.52 percent, to 7,316.15. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 433.97 points, or 1.74 percent, to 24,442.942.
Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with industrials and technology leading the laggards by going down 3.24 percent and 2.50 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and consumer staples led the gainers by rising 1.98 percent and 0.26 percent, respectively. ■
