JAKARTA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is preparing to expand its free meal program to conflict-prone areas, particularly in eastern Indonesia, to improve children's nutrition, the National Nutrition Agency said Wednesday.
"We have mapped Papua and other regions, including East Nusa Tenggara and Maluku. We want to improve nutrition in those areas," agency head Sudaryono told a press conference in Jakarta.
The program has continued to expand across Indonesia, with the government reporting that the number of beneficiaries had reached 62.45 million as of May 22, 2026.
Sudaryono said children in vulnerable, conflict-prone and remote areas must also have access to better nutrition.
"Children across Indonesia, especially those in vulnerable, conflict-prone and remote areas, must have access to better nutrition because they need it most," he said. ■
