MANILA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- An international team of scientists led by a Filipino researcher from Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) developed an AI model that predicts cardiac index, a measure of how effectively the heart pumps blood, according to local media reports on Thursday.
The model achieved a classification accuracy of 97.78 percent using physiological indicators such as heart rate, stroke volume index and cardiac output collected through noninvasive sensor stickers placed on patients' skin, according to ADMU.
The university said the system could provide a simpler and more accessible approach to monitoring heart health by reducing the need for specialized equipment and clinical settings.
According to a survey released by the Philippine Department of Science and Technology, about 13 percent of Filipino adults have elevated blood pressure. ■
